Wow!
Canon just announced the Canon 1Dx Mark III! It’s just a development announcement so not all the specs have been released yet.
We know it’s going to have the same body as the 1Dx Mark II, but with improved image quality, improved video quality, and improved Auto Focus, as well as a bunch of other improvements! The price hasn’t been announced yet, but I’m guessing it will be around the $7000 mark.
As more information is release, I will post updates to my blog at www.UTECHPIA.com/1DxMarkIII
So here’s what we know so far:
Canon said it will have the BEST movie shooting performance in EOS History!
That’s a bold statement, and I can’t wait to see how they’ll deliever on that.
It can capture 4K video at 60fps record INTERNALLY with 10-BIT with C-Log!
And it can even shoot videos in RAW!? That’s probably going to produce some super, super super-duper large video files!
They didn’t mention anything about IBIS or in-body image stabilization; so it most likely won’t have it.
We’re getting backlit buttons on the back of the camera! This is great for event photographers like Wedding photography where you are shooting in super dark environment! Now, backlit buttons is something that Nikon has had for over 9 years… but, it’s finally coming to the Canon 1Dx Mark III!
There’s a NEW AF button on the back of the camera, I’m not exactly sure how it works, but it does physically look different than the AF button on the 1Dx Mark II.
The Autofocus will be better than what’s found on the 1Dx Mark II, this is true weather you’re using the camera in Live View or looking through the Optical View Finder. I think the Autofocus on the 1dx Mark II is great, so better AF is certainly welcomed in my book!
Not a lot of information has been released about the new image sensor yet, we don’t even know the number of megapixels it’s going to have. My guess is that it’s probably going to be at least 20MP. And along with the new Image Sensor, it will have a brand new processor as well. And it’s confirmed to have better low light performance than the 1Dx Mark II, but again it is not clear on exactly how much better. That’s something we’re going to have to wait and find out.
Canon did give one official specification that I’m excited about, and that’s the high speed frame rate when taking photos with AF tracking….
When in Live View (aka Mirrorless Mode) it can shoot a burst mode of up to 20fps with AF Tracking! That’s crazy fast! However, with Live View Mode (again, aka Mirrorless mode), you won’t be able to use the optical view finder.
So, if you want to use the optical viewfinder while shooting the burst mode goes down to 16 fps… It’s not 20, but it’s still super fast, considering the fact that you have continuous AF tracking going on at the same time.
Memory Cards wise, it’ll be using Dual CF Express Cards!
The battery will be the same, LP-E19 that we’re used to using with the 1Dx Mark II. Canon stated that the battery life has been “Dramatically improved!”. The Canon 1dx Mark II already has fantastic battery life, in my opinion, so I’m really excited to hear how much the battery life will be improved will be for the 1dx Mark III.
It’s also going to have Built-in WiFi, and built-in Bluetooth.
Anyway, that’s all I have for now. As more information is release, I will post updates to my blog at www.UTECHPIA.com/1DxMarkIII
So, let me know, are you guys excited about the 1Dx Mark III? Do you think it’s a worthy upgrade to the 1Dx Mark II?
